2006 Todd Ten - Number 10
Band of Horses - Everything All The Time

Yeah, I've been taking my sweet time publishing my top ten records of 2006. For one, I'm a big believer that you should actually wait until the year is over before you make your list. Plus, like, it's just barely February, so... you know... quit complaining.

Anyway, the game is simple. Describe your favorite records of the year. Count backwards.

It's hard to talk about Band of Horses without also mentioning their venerable Northwestern forebearers, Built to Spill. But seriously, I mean it in the best possible way when I call BOH a BTS ripoff band.

Built to Spill has always been the jam band for people who hate jam bands. May favorite song of theirs (You Are) includes a 3 minute guitar solo mean to symbolize the awesome depth of true love.

Band of Horses, however, is the jam band for people who love pop music. All the Built to Spill elements are here: soaring sounds, trippy production, washed out vocals. But Band of Horses never allow their tightly written songs to get away from them. This is a lesson that Built to Spill never quite learned. The result is the tenth best record of 2006.
