Because of a quirk in the way Louisiana election law works, there's still one more Congressional race down there to be decided in a run-off on December 9.

This one is unique because it actually pits two Democrats. I typically don't get involved in Democratic primaries, but when one of the candidates is Rep. William Jefferson, a crooked politician sullying our party's good name, I'm not going to sit that one out.

The simplest way you can make a difference in the campaign right now is by making a contribution to Karen Carter's campaign. Jefferson has used the trappings of incumbency to build a solid, but not insurmountable cash-on-hand advantage and today - this very minute - regular folks like you and me can be the difference between change and more of Jefferson's dirty politics.

Click here to make a secure contribution to Karen Carter's campaign to defeat corruption within the Democratic Party. Time is running out and she'll put your money to work right away.

Let me make it easy for you. Here are two reasons you need to donate immediately.

1. Because federal agents found $90,000 of crooked money in his freezer. You know, next to the peas.

2. Because when the flood drowned the city of New Orleans, Karen Carter found any TV camera she could and asked for two things: buses and gas to get those people out. On the same day, William Jefferson tied up 2 Humvees and an helicopter to make sure his house was OK.

You can also just get started with your contribution by entering an amount below.

Karen Carter (LA-02) $

Thank you in advance for taking action today.

TV on the radio went on Letterman a few weeks ago to perform their single "Wolf Like Me." Unfortunately, they MELTED DAVE'S FACE OFF!!!

I've always liked this band better live than on record. Take a look to see why.

In solidarity with those fighting Wolverines from the great University of Michigan, this website has gone blue.

In just 2 short days, the mighty Wolverines face the insipid Suckeyes to determine, once and for all, the greatest state in the Union. I only feel bad that our team has to travel to the dank depths of Columbus to deliver a beatdown for the ages.

Until our team is safely back in the promised land of Michigania, this website and this author will GO BLUE!

Thank You Tigers!
Thank You, Tigers!

Sorry for the delay, but I'm just getting a chance to post all my World Series photos. See the complete set here.

The photo above is one of my favorites. Over and over again, Detroiters had one message for this team that had brought us so much joy: thank you.

We loved feeling like winners again. Even if we didn't win those last 3 games, no one can take away the pennant and all the great memories. That's why the World Series at Comerica was such a great frickin' party. Enjoy.

A month ago, my friend Adam (BTP's official NBA correspondent) opened his brand-new blog dedicated to his favorite sports team, the Golden State Warriors. Starting a sports blog is a little pipe dream of mine, so I'm particularly excited to see Adam make it happen. Plus, it's really really good.

In just the past week, he's published a legal breakdown of NBA contract buyouts, links to the Google Earth file of the W's roster, and unsubstantiated anti-Pistons drivel

It's really quite terrific, and very accessible even if you aren't an NBA fan.  Highly recommended.

I wrote this in my notebook during the immediate aftermath of last week's election. Just getting to post it now. More on the election in the days ahead. Stay tuned.

Last night as the confetti dropped and the music blasted, I realized something: This is equality on the march. It's a symbol of everything we stand for and it's a very, very good thing.

Our nation has never had a female Speaker of the House. In a little more than 30 days, we will. Congratulations, Madam Speaker Pelosi.

It's easy in 2006 America to forget that this kind of historic first can still happen. That our Democratic Party is the first to make it so is a testament to our "San Francisco" values.

I don't really have anything brilliant to add to this cool experience. It's just my favorite part of the Democratic victory so far.

New York Times

Take a close look at this chart. We are failing in Iraq - miserably.

Our own military - they prepared this chart - knows it. Look how close they put us to total "Chaos."

George Bush has been a complete and utter failure.

You might not know it from watching CNN today, but I assure that this is the singular issue of the coming election. And it has everything to do with what America stands for and who were are as a people.

America has always been about justice, progress, and a better way of life. By turning Iraq into a monumental failure of unimaginable violence, George Bush and his Republican cronies have squandered that legacy. It may be too late to make this disaster right, but we must try.

"Stay the course" has failed America in the most shameful way. By refusing to address or even acknowledge mistakes made in Iraq, Bush and his allies have thrown away the greatness of our nation. And all they have to show for it is a "Support the Troops" bumper sticker.

The American people have had enough. That's why we're going to throw the bums out on Election Day. We simply have to before it's too late.
