You're not this guy...by God's amazing grace.
I was gonna write something about the new Luke Stricklin song that's taking the country music world by storm. The song details this Iraq War veteran's stance that America totally kicks ass and that if you disagree, well, he's just gonna punch you right in the mouth.
I was gonna write something about it myself. But the Shank just nailed it and there's nothing more to say.
RadioShank: Asshole AmericanLUKE STRICKLIN - American By God's Amazing Grace [mp3]
Wow. Do you think when he tells people to stop complaining about wha they ain't got cuz it could be worse, they could be livin' in Baghdad he's referring to rich who've been receiving tax breaks during a time of war?
Do you think when he sings "If you got something bad to say about the USA, you better save it for different ears 'less you wanna crawl away," do you think he's referring to traitors in the White House who vindictively out undercover CIA agents while we're at war? Or do you think he's referring to the folks back home who are pissed that BushCo sent our troops to war without things like proper armor? Or a plan?
And I'm an atheist, does that mean I'm not American? Or just not as American as you?
But when ol' Luke sings "I really don't care why Bush went into Iraq" he reveals the entirety of the problem. As an American, Lukey, it is your duty to give a flying fuck when the rulers of your country decide to invade a sovereign nation without provocation.
Cuz see, when you don't care why Bush went to war, you make it even easier for him to do it again, in Syria, Iran, Poland, etc. etc.
So Luke, your jingoistic message here, "we're prouda what we done, so don't you question or criticize," well, it's totally unamerican, just like anyone who agrees with your hackneyed, exploitative sentiment.
Ass.

You are a dumb FUCK. You need to go crawl under a Rock and die. You are lucky that you can say or criticize someone that you dont know or what he believes. This internet is for dumb fucks like you, you probably dont even have a life, Fat, Bastard child, I feel sorry for people like you.

Sir,
Just wanted to let you know that I approved the comment you made to my blog today. It's viewable at:
http://www.bethepower.com/archives/2005/08/youre_not_this.html
I do have one request. I would very much like to hear your views on the subject discussed in the posting, rather than just your name calling.
The article I discussed in my original post might be sarcastic and crude, but it did have a point. As I read it, the author was roughly arguing that "Blind, uncritical faith in the actions of our government is not a wise position to take when the government is doing a bunch of questionable things." The author then lists what he believes what he believes are the questionable actions taken by the current government: invading Iraq with what he considers minimal evidence, lowering taxes during time of war, the alleged leak of a CIA agent's identity by a senior government official.
Obviously that's pretty serious stuff.
Near as I can tell, you aren't refuting ANY of that. You aren't saying "You're wrong and here's why." You aren't saying, "Well, all those bad things are true, but it's still important to support our government's actions because..." I would greatly appreciate it if you could add the reason you disagree to your outrage.
And, to reiterate - the original post was sarcastic and crude. I certainly don't care if you want to follow suit. Heck, it's probably more entertaining to read.
Bottom line: If you're up for it, I'd love it if you posted some real reasoning rather than just shrill insults.
thanks
todd
I had the same feelings many times in my 20 years of service. I think it's just about his (and I am sure many others) personal thoughts that kept him going while deployed and not a political statement. I doubt you served.
Well, I'm somewhat disappointed in the original post. It shows he lacks what we in the service need to survive: Loyalty, a sense of duty and selfless service, and of course, honor and integrity. "As the saying goes, I defend to the death your right to criticize all that I am and do"
And oh, by the way, I still say this after 2 tours in Iraq and 2 tours in Afghanistan. I just wish that all of you could actually see those places with your own eyes instead of Monday-Morning quarterbacking all that we do from your comfortably safe couches in front of CNN.
"DEFEND AND SERVE, ESSAYONS!"
the song is not about wether the government is corrupt or not. it is about everyday americans complaing about how bad the we have it here. What most Americans don't relize, and I am thankfull that they don't is compared to the lives of the people in Iraq and the things we as soldiers see is petty. we complain when our hamburger has pickles on it when we ordered it without. I have seen personally people raise hell about litle things like that. to puyt thing in a mor personal context for most people gas is rising in cost to $3.00 plus a gallon. In Iraq an oil rich country. fuel is anywhere from $10 to $15 a gallon. Even with all the "evils" that we percive in this country our poorest live in better conditions then the wealthy in most of iraq. So yes if you wish to bad mouth our country then I would suggest finding ears other then a soldier because we have seen up close and personal what it is like in a world with out the freedoms that allow people the very right to disscontent. the thing is even though that is you right rember that a soldier at one time or another bled and die so you can have it.
I am sorry for the spelling but i hope that will not detract from what i've said
